A Celebration of Life Service for Betty Mae Valasek will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021  at 10:30 a.m. at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE, with Pastor Kimberlee A. Osborn, officiating. Betty, entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, July 24, at her  home, surrounded by her devoted family.

Betty Mae (Kutschkau) Valasek, 92 years of age, of Lincoln, NE, was the penultimate child of  seven siblings born to Gustav and Cora (Mapes) Kutschkau. Grand Island, NE was her birthplace on February 23, 1929. She is the only one of seven to have been born in a hospital.

Betty grew up during the “the dirty ‘30s”, i.e., The Great Depression, and lived a life without  some “wants” while still caring for others. Family meant a great deal to her, particularly  grandchildren who could not leave the house after a visit, without a care package from Grandma.

Betty was a life-long Lutheran, with membership at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church, since 1963  when moving back to Nebraska from Indiana. She did Meals-on-Wheels for 30 years and  belonged to a Thursday morning housewives bowling league for nearly 35 years.

Betty was a big Nebraska Huskers sport’s fan, particularly football and volleyball.

Married on July 15, 1951 to Verden “Ray” Valasek, they celebrated 70 years of marriage nine  days prior to her passing.

Left to celebrate her life: her husband, Verden Ray Valasek, her son, Jeff Valasek of Arizona; grandchildren: Joel (Dawna) Valasek of Vail AZ, Jasmine (Tyler) Armstrong, Julie Valasek  (Craig), Jordan Valasek; great-grandchildren: Ayla White, all of Lincoln, NE, Makayla, Elijah,  Nathaniel, Vanessa and Madeleine of Vail, AZ: one brother Melvin (Bonnie) Kutschkau of  Fullerton NE: special friend Cindy Aaron of Centreville, VA.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents: the couple’s daughter, Lori Valasek Moore; brothers: Leroy (Rhea)Kutschkau, Wilbur (Iona)Kutschkau, Don (Adeline)Kutschkau, Orvis  “Danny” (Elaine) Kutschkau; sister, Eloise (Richard) Sherry.

A memorial has been established in Betty’s honor and suggested to St Andrew’s Lutheran  Church or to be designated by the family at a later date.
