I wish I would have thanked Bernie for all the opportunities in my professional life he provided me. I didn’t even realize what he had done for me until reflecting after hearing of his passing. RIP St. Bernard and belated thanks.

My first thought is how for several decades, many to most, have known my brother as “Bernie” – not Bernard. The less formal seems to more accurately reflect his personality – inquisitive, whimsical, and curious: in the best sense. Could spin a yarn – and knowing what was coming, he would laugh ( at least chortle ) before getting to the punch line. His eyes would sparkle. Often found irony in life, saw the humor. Well aware of great sorrows and struggles – but choose to add sunlight, not darkness. He was a contributor of joy.

Bernie was my neighbor and friend. He and Ginger would do anything for anyone. I’m sure he had more bike rides planned and trees to plant. Hopefully he gets to do that in paradise.
