Annie (Nancy) Lilian Dangerfield

18 January 1932 – 12 September 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nanny, and Super Nanny, Annie Lilian “Nancy” Dangerfield. Known for her warmth, strength, wit, and generosity, Nancy lived a remarkable life filled with resilience, love, and devotion to her family.

Early Life in England
Born to William and Emily Walters in Birmingham, England, in 1932, Nancy was one of six children. Her childhood was shaped by the hardships of World War II when she endured nights in bomb shelters and learned to navigate life amidst air raids. She often recalled both the fear and resilience of those years, sharing vivid stories with her family.

A Skilled Seamstress & Milliner
Nancy left school early to learn a trade and quickly discovered her talent as a milliner and seamstress. She created beautiful hats, dresses, draperies, and custom alterations with skill and creativity. Her sewing machine was one of her closest companions, and through her work, she not only supported her family but also built lasting friendships.

Love & Family
Nancy met the love of her life, Ralph, at a Coronation Dance, and they married in 1953. The couple shared 50 wonderful years together before his passing in 2003. Together, they raised two daughters, Julie and Kim, who were the center of her world.

Journey to America
In 1966, Nancy began a new chapter when she emigrated to America with her husband and daughters. Carrying only $100, three suitcases, and dressed in their Sunday best for the journey, the family settled in Simi Valley, California. Nancy soon found work sewing draperies, which eventually grew into her own drapery business. Later, she shifted into manufacturing computer boards, before ultimately returning to her true passion (crafts, fabric, and sewing) finishing her career at House of Fabrics.

Later Years & Community Involvement
Nancy was admired for her impeccable style, always dressed with care, from her earrings to her sweaters. She was an exceptional cook and baker, famous for her apple pies that became a cherished family tradition. She enjoyed Hallmark shows and movies, and above all, she loved talking with people, sharing stories, and sprinkling conversations with her quick wit. She delighted in being part of family activities and treasured her role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In California, she was an active member of her Friendly Village community, where she served as treasurer, enjoyed clubhouse coffees, and played rounds of putt-putt golf with friends. Even as her health declined, she remained engaged with those around her, eventually moving to Nebraska in 2020 to be closer to family.

Legacy
Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unfailing devotion to her loved ones. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, and her storytelling, humor, and lively conversations will remain part of her family’s cherished memories. She lived a life rooted in love, perseverance, and service.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Silvertrust (Mark) and Kim Harrop (Martin); her grandchildren, Jordan Silvertrust (Becky), Alanna Morse (Will), Stephen Harrop, and Kerys Harrop; her six great-grandchildren, Cole, William, Lucas, Henry, Blake, and Amelia; and her brother Frank (Beryl).

A Celebration of Life will take place on November 10th in Lincoln, Nebraska. The location will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider donating to one of Nancy’s favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Though she will be missed beyond measure, her family takes comfort in knowing that Nancy is now reunited with Ralph, and we like to imagine them once again dancing together in heaven.
