Lori Anne Allison
Born on November 12, 1960.
Passed away on July 19, 2020.
Lori Allison was born in Toronto, Ontario to Bill and Margot Allison who immigrated to Canada from Scotland. Lori loved science in school and received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto. She then did postdoctoral research in Paris, France and at Rutgers University that helped pioneer putting foreign genes into plant cells. She came to Nebraska in 1996 to take a faculty position in the UNL Biochemistry Department, where she met her husband, John Markwell. After a half dozen years of teaching and research, she decided to change careers and pursued a Pharm.D. degree from Creighton University and became a pharmacist at CHI St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Lori loved cats and was thought of affectionately as a Cat Lady by many that knew her. She loved Sammy from 2000 to 2015 and then doted on Allison, a three-legged rescue cat from 2016 until her passing. Her cats were a major part of her life and shared every year with friends and family on her Christmas cards. She enjoyed knitting and made beautiful, unique gifts for her family members and friends. Wearing red and being an avid Cornhusker fan was a passion of Lori’s, as was visiting National Parks. She was a loving aunt and spoiled her nieces and nephews with candy and fun presents at birthdays and holidays and was a fun and influential part of life for John’s children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking with her husband and trying new foods.
Lori is survived by her husband John Markwell and his kids (Tristan and Caitlin), her parents (Bill and Margot), three brothers (Robert, Peter and David), two sisters in law (Patrice and Robin), four nephews (Cameron, Connor, Graham and Thomas) and two nieces (Lauren and Grace).

Dear John,
I am so sorry to hear of Lori’s passing. I know that Lori fought a long and difficult battle and that you were there by her side every step of the way. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Best, Mike
Lori was an amazing and loving grandmother, and I call her Lori to this day. She brought light into every room she walked into, and in my heart forever. She is loved, and is missed.
Lori was a dynamic and vivacious person who loved life and showed it in her smile and actions as a care-giving pharmacist at CHI Saint Elizabeth. Once hired, she quickly fit into the pharmacy family. Lori demonstrated on a daily basis many examples of empathy toward patients, always wanting to make sure patient-care was the best it could be. We loved her baking as she helped to make each workday a joy. I am glad God led her to us to share our short time we had together. God bless you Lori!
Lori was a brilliant and inspiring classmate, and someone I always felt proud to have shared some important times with, both in school and out. I loved how funny she was then, and it is clear that it remained as an essential part of her character as she displayed a remarkable good humour during her illness. The picture with this notice is so lovely, and it seems like she is wearing an expression I can exactly remember. She will be missed not only by those close to her now, but those once close to her, those she knew, those she influenced, and by the world in general.
John,
Sorry for your loss. I know this has been a long and difficult period. Remember the good years that you and Lori had. Our thoughts are with you.

I am so sorry for your loss May She Rest In Peace.
To an esteemed colleague and friend, you will be greatly missed. Our pharmacy has never been the same since you left, but for me, your spirit and dedication to your patients left an indelible impression on me. I still carry around a one sheet explanation of MICs that you gave me, consult it from time to time, and think of you. Your love of science, dedication to it’s principles, and willingness to go where it took you will be greatly missed. Sending my family’s love, thoughts, and prayers to your family during this difficult time. Jason
It is so sad to learn of Lori’s passing although we knew about her health problems. Our deepest sympathy to you and family.
John
Thinking of you and your family at this time.
Best wishes,
Cindy
So sorry for your loss John.
John,
Lori has left a legacy of kindness and wealth of admiration for all who knew her and loved her. You were there as she fought every step of this very difficult fight and your courage in the face of her struggle surely brought her comfort and peace. She will be missed, but not forgotten. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Michael and Pauline Zeece
Lori was a kind and gentle soul. She was always smiling, and had a way of turning any sad moment around. I was lucky to have been trained by her as a new pharmacist, and even luckier to have known her. Lori has left us in a physical way, but she will always be present in our hearts and memories. My thoughts and prayers go to you and your family. May she rest in peace.
Dear John and family, your loss has been very hard for us to accept. We send our sympathy and want you to know that having known and loved Lori since grade one we are deeply saddened. She was a part of our family. Together with our Lori and Jennifer she played, attended school, weekended with us at the lake and was bridesmaid to our daughter. She was a happy child, a bright student and so very successful in her chosen career. We have many years of wonderful memories and we know your memories of your life together we help you. Thank you for taking such good care of Lori. She is with the Angels.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I went to St. Clement’s with Lori from grade 5 onward and she was always so brilliant but also kind, caring and really funny. She will be greatly missed.
