Linda Kay Butcher
Linda K. Butcher, 59, of Lincoln, passed from this life on April 24, 2020. She was born in Lincoln and was the youngest of three children to Rolland and Dorothy (Flau) Tubman. She earned her bachelor’s degree in horticulture from the University of Nebraska.
Linda was employed with Southeast Community College in the financial aid office. Throughout her career, she assisted countless students receive financial aid to attend college.
In addition to her commitment to her career, Linda volunteered for numerous organizations, focusing on horticulture and agriculture. She enjoyed traveling, especially to financial aid conferences across the country where she made many friends. Linda was also an active member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Linda leaves behind her daughter Jessica Butcher, her son Andrew and his wife Stephanie Butcher, her beloved grandchildren Jack and Natalie, as well as her sister Patricia and brother-in-law Darrell Wissink, and several nieces and nephews, all of Lincoln. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brother David and sister-in-law Patricia Tubman.

Linda was such a gentle and kind person. I really enjoyed working together in Brownell PTA for many years. She was a proud grandma and it was special to reconnect when Jack came to Meadow Lane. Jessica and Andrew and family, I am very sorry for your loss. Your mom was a wonderful person. I will be thinking of you and all of your family.
I am so sorry for your loss. Linda and I were both Master Gardeners and I worked on several projects with her for over a decade. She was a sweet, caring person that I enjoyed knowing.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I’m still in shock myself. My Prayers go to your entire family. She will be missed by Family & Friends. There just aren’t words that I can say, that will help with anyone’s pain. I can say that knowing her and having her as an Aunt was wonderful. She was a really fantastic woman with a terrific sense of humor. She use to make me laugh so hard. I’ll miss her very much. Her legacy will live on, with her children grandchildren and so on. I grew up with Linda–from elementary school to UNL. I always treasured her as a friend and wish we had been better at staying in touch. My deepest condolences to your family during this time. I will be making a donation to Hearts United for Animals in her name.

Jessica, Andrew and Stephanie, my thoughts and prayers have been with you, your Mom and your entire family for several weeks since learning of her condition. Linda was “one of a kind”…smart, funny and full of compassion. She could say so much with just “one look”. I am lucky to have worked beside her for so many years at NSLP. Even when we hadn’t seen each other for years, when I reached to her out for assistance, she didn’t bat an eye extending her helping hand with all her knowledge of student loans whether general questions or related to SCC. The last time I saw her was in the Northern Lights Hy-Vee parking lot. She was on her way in and we were on our way out. It was so nice to get to talk to her then. I wish I could have known then that was the last time I would see her…the hug would have lasted MUCH longer. My heart aches for you all. Now, she is in a place where she can watch over all of you at the same time. I will miss her FB garden and Fridays with Jack posts. I consider myself fortunate to have known your mother. My sincerest condolences to you and the entire family.
I worked with Linda for years both at NSLP and Inceptia. I also worked with Andrew at NSLP. Linda will be missed. I would have liked to gone with her to a wine dinner but we didn’t get to it before she left us.

Linda was a lovely person. I met her through the campus master gardener program and very much enjoyed her company the past two years traveling to attend the spring gardening conference put on by Iowa master gardeners. My heart goes out to her family.
My deepest sympathy to the family. I am just so saddened that the world is without Linda. Her passing came as such a shock, and I find myself missing her ‘likes’ on FB, as we were both avid online Danish group members, Danish Sisters, and we shared a lot of similar interests. Loved her “Fridays with Jack”, her joy in Natalie as well as her glimpses into one of my favorite places, the Sunken Gardens. The world is not the same without her here.
So sorry for your loss. I met Linda through the Master Gardeners we worked on a committee together years ago. She was such a wonderful, fun and positive person. She attended our annual spring garden conference and every year I’d look forward to seeing her there. She will be missed by many.
