Dick and Carla Cuddeford
Richard “Dick” Cuddeford passed away July 23rd at the age of 83.
Dick was born on May 7th, 1936. While stationed in Italy with the Army, Dick met his wife Carla. Dick proudly worked for Shelter Insurance for many years and enjoyed his time with them until his retirement.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Homer and Alyce Cuddeford and his wife Carla. He is survived by his 4 children, Danny (Deb), David (Kathy), Michelle Gaines (David), and Rick (Sherri), his brother Phil (Ethel), 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Known to his family as “Papa Dick” or “The Godfather”, Dick had a larger than life personality that demanded attention. He was an enthusiastic fan of Nebraska sports and enjoyed attending the many family viewing parties. Dick especially loved food and was never known to turn away a good meal. His main pride though was his family and you could often find him supporting his grandchildren at one of their many sporting events. He has left his family with many wonderful memories that they will cherish and share for years to come.
There will be a graveside service for “Dick” Richard Homer Cuddeford, who died on July 23, 2019, and his wife Carla Lucina (Dorlini) Cuddeford, who died in 2013, on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the cemetery at Genoa, Nebraska. Also a celebration of their lives will be the same day at 6:00 p.m. at Wilderness Ridge, 1800 Wilderness Woods Pl, Lincoln, NE 68512.

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Richard… but I have been working on my grandmothers genealogy and recording her slides and realized when I read about Richard’s passing, he is my grandmother’s nephew. My grandma is Opal (Cuddeford) Henricksen. Homer was her brother. I am so sad that family was right here and I didn’t know it. He sounds like he was an amazing father and grandfather. I would have loved to know him. Sadly, I am out of town and will not be able to make the service. However, I would love to connect with you. Please feel free to call or send me an email or text. So sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. He was a great guy and always so proud of his kids & grandkids. I knew him through the many years he shared office space with a Sheaff Law Offices & when he came down the hall to chat was always a bright spot of the day.
I’m so sorry to hear about your father. I always enjoyed his sense of humor, he was a good man, and will be missed. You have so many awesome memories, and fun stories to share for years to come. You are all blessed to call him your father. Your mother always made me smile too, I remember you boys teasing her and getting that accent going, never a dull moment at the Cuddeford home!! ‘Dear Michelle and Dave, So shocked at the news of the sudden passing of your Dad. He threw a “curve” nobody expected. I know how much you loved your Dad and without a doubt he wouldn’t have sat on those hard benches game after game if that love wasn’t mutual. He loved his whole family….was so evident in our conversations…on the bench. This is a tough act of love to accept but you must dig deep now for that strength he taught you about when the going gets tough. We will miss our breakfast discussions at HyVee. His memories of Carla, Grandkids sporting activities & how our tomato plants were doing were always lively conversations. Prayers to the family. We were honored to call him “friend”.
All of us in the water aerobics class at the Landing will miss Dick very much. He added so much fun to the class with his joking around.

I’m so sorry to hear about your father. I know you were very close to your father and will miss him beyond words. I remember meeting him at Sue’s retirement. He was a spark of energy and just loved to meet people. If there’s anything I can do for your family let me know. I’m sorry I didn’t make it this evening, but my heart is with you. I will be praying for peace and comfort for your family. Celebrate his amazing life dear friend. It looks like to me, he lived a wonderful and fulfilling life. He had a lot of family and love surrounding him. That’s a true blessing. Take comfort knowing he is with our heavenly father and is surrounded in eternal love. Let me know when your “quiet time” hits you. That’s when you need friends and family. We can’t fill the void, but we can certainly help you carry some of the grief. Peace be with you my friend.
We were so saddened to hear of Dick’s passing. My wife and I used to live across the street from him on Fairfield. While we moved in after Carla’s passing we got to hear many great stories about her. Dick was the sweetest man. He and Abby would always be watching over our street so my wife and I would walk over and talk to him from time to time. Moving away from that house was very difficult because of the great neighbors we had, Dick being the top of that list. We are so sorry for your loss. It is hard to hear being his neighbor, we can only imagine how wonderful a man he was in family. We wish the family our best and know God has received another Angel.
Dick was a classmate at Kramer High in the clas of 54. Rip classmate.

He always spoke of his children and grandchildren .

I am saddened about the recent loss of Dick. I was able to work with him before his retirement and always enjoyed his smile and attitude while working with him. I still cherish an MFA candy jar he gave me as a gift prior to his retirement that sits in my office with pride. Prayers to the Cuddeford family in the days and weeks ahead.
