Richard L. Egger Sr.

June 20, 1935 – October 20, 2026
Richard (Dick) Lee Egger Sr., 91, passed away on October 20, 2026. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Benjamin and Agnes (Newhall) Egger.
Richard graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953 and was proudly inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he began working at the Nebraska Book Company, where he dedicated his career for 45 years until his retirement in 2001. After retiring, Richard missed working with people and took on part-time roles as a Greeter at Lincoln Memorial and Walmart, which he really enjoyed.
A man of many interests and deep community involvement, Richard loved playing the drums—a passion that began in high school and continued for a lifetime, always turning anything close into something to tap on. In his early twenties, he realized young women like to dance, so eager to impress the ladies, he took classes at the Arthur Murray School of Dance. He enjoyed dancing and almost all genres of music. He was a dedicated community member, serving as a Tabitha Hospice Volunteer, participating in the Sertoma Club, and achieving membership in the Community Blood Bank of Lincoln’s 25-Gallon Donor Club.
Richard’s greatest love was for his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He delighted in spoiling them with silly toys and trinkets shopped for at Walmart, and his car trunk was famously always full of treasures for the children. In the last few years of his life, he cherished his weekly coffee club with his son-in-law Dave and friends Tom Haag and Mike Will, where they all enjoyed sharing stories—sometimes the same ones repeatedly.
Preceded in death by his Parents; Children, Nancy Mae, Lynette, and Richard; Wife, Rosemarie (Sommer) Egger, Former Wife, Sandra Welter: Siblings, Dorothy, Marjorie, Lucille, Fern, Harold, and Billy; Infant Great Grandchild, Willow Welter.
