Sharlet M. Burkey

Sharlet M Burkey passed away at age 94 in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 8th, 2026. She resided in Lincoln for many years. Sharlet was born in Lincoln on October 22, 1931 and adopted by Frederick and Sula Meyer from Red Cloud, Nebraska. She grew up there along with her sister Shirley on the family farm. After graduating high school, she moved to Lincoln to attend the Lincoln School of Commerce, where she met her husband to be, Harry Burkey. They were married at Saint Paul Methodist Church in Lincoln on September 15, 1950.

She is survived by their three children, son Gregory Burkey (Belen Burkey, (predeceased)) of Tucson, Arizona, daughters Kiley Wingstedt (William Wingstedt) of Oswego, Illinois and Sandra Ratzlaff (Allen Ratzlaff) of Malcolm, Nebraska, five grandchildren, Rachel Wingstedt Kriz, Claire Wingstedt Kane, Zackary Ratzlaff, & Gabriel Ratzlaff, Christine Horn (stepdaughter of Greg). Predeceased by Matthew Wingstedt (October 26, 2014). She had 5 great grandchildren, Yazmin Ratzlaff, Daisy Kriz, River Kriz, Sadie Kane and Josie Kane.

Sharlet and Harry moved many times for Harry’s job, Iowa, Colorado, California, Illinois, Arizona and then back to Nebraska. Sharlet worked in many school districts as a clerical worker. In her retirement she loved Jazzercise, traveling, spending time with her family and was an avid reader. She also loved cats and dogs. Her husband Harry passed in November of 2019.

Her burial will be private.
