Karen Susanne Glidewell, 78 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly from Grover Beach, California, passed away peacefully at Southlake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center, Inc. in Lincoln, Nebraska on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.  Karen was born on September 22, 1947, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the youngest of three daughters born to Paul R. and Opal L. (Herrington) Smith.  She received her primary education from University High School, graduating with the class of 1966.

After graduation, Karen moved to San Luis Obispo, California and worked as a waitress for 20 years before moving back to Morgantown, West Virginia to care for her ailing mother.  After her mother’s passing, she moved back to California and was a caregiver for several people.  In May of 2025, Karen moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be close to her older sister and niece.

On January 3, 1999, Karen was united in marriage to Don M. Glidewell in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Karen was a free spirited individual.  She loved the beach, the sunsets on the beach and loved all animals that came her way.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Don Glidewell), her sister (Nancy Smith), a brother-in-law (Ivyl Huffman) and a nephew (Edward Huffman).

Karen is survived by a sister (JoAnn Huffman), niece (Sandra Huffman), both of Lincoln, Nebraska and a step-granddaughter (Athena Hernandez) of San Luis Osbispo, California.

The family is honoring Karen’s wish for cremation and no memorial service.
