Carolyn Louise Hambleton

Carolyn Louise Hambleton, age 79, went to be with her Heavenly Father October 21st, 2025. She was the first born of 3 children to Delbert (Bill) F McDuffee and Bertha Esther (Schall) McDuffee on December 14th, 1945. They lived on a farm a mile north of The Council Church. She attended Country school to 3rd grade. Her family moved to York and Carolyn attended Willard Elementary 4th to 6th grade, then 7th to 12th at York High School. She graduated in 1964. She then went to Cosmetology school, graduating in August 1965.
Carolyn worked in several salons but stayed with Town & Country beauty shop for many years. She won several Cosmetology awards and was the Beautician for the 1968 Miss Nebraska Pageant when it was in York. At the awards ceremony she was called up on stage by Miss Congeniality and handed an arm full of red roses for her attentive skillfulness.
She was united in marriage to Harry “Joe” Edgerley on December 4th, 1971. To this union three children were born, John Burton, Angelika (Angie) Marie, and Mariana Elizabeth.
Carolyn had the privilege of living in Nebraska, Kansas, Augsburg Germany, Ft Mead, and Maryland. While in Germany for 3 years she enjoyed living on a retired flour mill and going on Volksmarches on the weekends, cooking, and bowling while living on the economy.
In 1987 Carolyn became a CNA, working at York General Hearthstone for 13 years. She always remained involved in her children’s lives, becoming a Cub Scout Den Leader and Assistant Cub Scout Master, and being there when her children needed her.
In 2001 she was united in marriage to Elston Hambleton on April 16th and moved to Fullerton, NE. She worked as a CNA at the long-term unit of the hospital in Central City for 4 years while enjoying farm life. Elston passed away February 2006.
Carolyn then moved back to York, engaging in helping senior citizens at the Senior Center and Aging Partners. She enjoyed visiting with elderly people, crocheting, puzzles, word find, sudoku, reading, writing, pitch, bingo and many other games. She enjoyed life, you would find her always with a smile on her face and making people laugh.
Carolyn leaves behind a sister Virginia (Ron) Helmlinger of York, a brother James “Jim” (Joyce) McDuffee, a son John (Lori) Edgerley, daughters Angelika (Carlos) Guitierrez, Mariana (Mike) Amaris; 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband (Elston), parents, and a grandson.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 12:00pm – 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at the York Senior Center, 725 N Nebraska Ave, York, NE 68467.
It was Carolyn’s wish to be cremated.
