“Jerry” Jerome E. Werts
Jerome (Jerry) E. Werts, 79 passed away at his home in Lincoln, NE on May 28, 2023. Jerry was born to Charles and Helen (Bolz) Werts on May 3, 1944 in St. Edward, NE.
On May 2, 1964 Jerry was married to Linda Kay Mahoney. They had four children Kevin, Kelly, Renee and Kory. In 1977, after the birth of their youngest child Jerry made a mark in the world when he chose to be a stay at home dad. It didn’t take long for the kids to say they liked dad’s fried chicken, spaghetti and creamed cucumbers better than their mother’s.
Jerry was a man of few words, but as his grandchildren would attest, he was always “there” – birthdays, weddings, family gatherings, etc. Small children and dogs always gravitated towards him. He always seemed to entertain his grandchildren with his repetitive crazy riddles. He loved the vacations that involved many family members as well as family gatherings at home and going to the casino.
Jerry is survived by his wife Linda of Lincoln, NE and his four children Kevin (Peggy) Werts of Lincoln, NE, Kelly (Amy) Werts of Nebraska City, NE, Renee (Jason) Herold of Raleigh, NC, and Kory (Allison) Werts of Papillion, NE, ten grandchildren, Bryce Werts, Blake Werts, Shelby Werts, Kendall Werts, Chloe Anderson, Karsyn Johnson, Payton Carpenter, Kaiden Werts, Owen Werts and Emma Werts and six great-grandchildren Rilynn, Olivia, Natalie, Lochlan, Miles and Jack, sister-in-law Iola Werts of Columbus, NE and brother-in-law Homer Nelson of Genoa, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Billy Werts, brothers Duane Werts and his wife Donna, Jim Werts and his wife Lois, Denny Werts and his wife Viola, William Werts and sisters Annie Werts, Patricia Nelson and Delores Torson and her husband Art, brother-in-laws James Mahoney, Gerald (Jerry) Mahony and Pat Mahoney and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, NE on Wednesday June 7th at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the funeral services, there will be visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.
