Joyce Marie Colson

featured image

Joyce “JC” Colson, 50, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully April 6, 2023.

Born in Pawnee City, Nebraska, in 1973, JC grew up enjoying sports and the outdoors. She graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce with a degree in fashion merchandising in 1993.

JC loved her work as Volunteer Services Manager at CHI Health St. Elizabeth and the opportunity it provided to touch others’ lives. She prioritized getting to know people, and, whether they were lifelong friends or new acquaintances, she lifted their spirits with her thoughtful gestures and musical laugh. Creative, kind, and independent, she pushed back against life’s troubles with a sense of humor that was sometimes zany and sometimes wry.

JC will be deeply missed. She is survived by sister Carol Stermensky and her husband Gage Stermensky; sister Cathy Beutler; brother Rob Colson; aunt Diane Hall; aunt Saundra Menninga; aunt Betty Colson; uncle Richard Colson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Iola Colson and grandparents Elmer and Lauretta Colson.

JC requested memorials to St. Elizabeth Foundation designated for Volunteer Services. Memorials may also be sent to the family for family’s choice.

A celebration of life will be held 4 p.m., Friday, April 14, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 8320 South Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.

JC was a part of a great team at the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum, part of the management team, running the store and visitor services. Emotions and empathy always ran high with JC, a trait that endeared her to those who worked around her. Her passion and sensitivity will be missed. Goodbye JC, we’ll remember you always

I worked with JC at JC Penney in the early 90’s. I haven’t had much contact with her since I moved away from Nebraska, but I never forgot her upbeat personality. She was friend to everyone. Her kind spirit will be missed.

JC’s kindness and consideration toward others was rivaled by none. Guided by her heart and deep sense of empathy, she valued the smallest interaction and sought the most out of life. Thank you, JC, for your passion and endless kindness. Your heart knew no bounds. You will be missed.

JC worked for a long time at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum as a Guest Services and Gift Shop Manager. She kindly served hundreds of thousands of guests, volunteers, and staff. The world is now a bit smaller, JC having gone on to a final reward. Blessings upon all affected by her passing. Peace be upon thee.

I worked as a volunteer at the SAC museum where JC was the long time Gift Store manager and volunteer coordinator. She was so proud of the work she did promoting the museum and helping the volunteers-unbelievably conscientious and helpful always wanting to do the right thing. The world will miss her.

JC worked with my mom, Donna years ago at Four Star Card and Gift Gallery! I remember her from stopping in from time to time and JC Penny’s after that! She always had a smile that would light up the room! My mom wouldn’t remember her now, (Dang Dementia!) but I know she would be heartbroken if she did! She loved all the ladies she worked with! I’m so sorry to hear of JC’s passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends! May she rest in peace!

    Dear Colson Family,

I am a neighbor of JC’s and would like to extend my sincere condolences her family. I am truly saddened to hear of her passing.

While I didn’t know her well, it was very evident that she was a kind and caring person. She always greeted me with a smile on her face followed by a warm ‘hello’. We’d spend a few minutes chatting before going our separate ways. One thing is for sure our little neighborhood will not be the same without her in it. May her light live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

    Warm regards,
    Debbie Way
